Depth of field & composition

Depth of field is another term I am not completely sure of. I am almost certain that it revolves around backgrounds and foregrounds. After researching I found out that Depth of Field is how deep the area in focus is. Depth of field is used to make a subject in the foreground in focus and the background blurry or to open your D.O.F to make all the subjects sharp and in focus.

Narrow D.O.F - F16 Deep/wide D.O.F - F2.8

With a narrow depth of field, the foreground image can be in focus with slight out of focus areas. This is when you have to adjust the aperture. The smaller the aperture, the wider/deeper your D.O.F
